Sodexo Canada Selected as One of Canada’s Greenest Employers for Sustainable Practices

Montreal, QC – April 16, 2024 - For the fourth consecutive year, Sodexo has been named one of Canada’s Greenest Employers for 2024 by Mediacorp Canada. Developing and nurturing a culture of sustainability throughout the organization is a concerted effort.

Sodexo Canada’s sustainability strategy focuses on four pillars that align with the company’s global Better Tomorrow 2025 roadmap: prevention of food waste, prevention of material waste, promotion of plant-based meals, and responsible sourcing.

“Our teams are driven by core values of innovation and sustainability. We work collaboratively with our clients and partners to develop solutions that not only have a positive impact on the environment but also support their business objectives,” says Normand St-Gelais, Director of Corporate Responsibility, Sodexo Canada. “This recognition as one of Canada’s Greenest Employers validates our path and inspires us to continue our journey toward a better tomorrow.”

The following are a few of the many initiatives that make Sodexo one of Canada's Greenest Employers:

  • A formal plastics reduction policy to eliminate the use of plastic straws, stir sticks, plastic bags, takeout containers and polystyrene containers from our operations, in addition to a formal program designed to reduce waste and replace single-use disposable food and beverage containers with reusable ones

  • Maintaining an ongoing partnership with Bullfrog Power to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions that ensure Canadian offices and a warehouse location are powered with green electricity. Thanks to this partnership, 69 tonnes of CO2 were avoided in the 2023 fiscal year.

  • A proprietary on-site platform for sustainability reporting enabling progress tracking, performance assessment and benchmarking. The SEA (Site Engagement Assessment) portal and application play a pivotal role in producing strategic action plans to achieve sustainability goals across all units.

  • A partnership with Tree Canada, with a commitment to plant 2,400 trees across the country to support reforestation through the National Greening Program. In addition, a tree is planted through Tree Canada for every new hire at Sodexo Canada.
