Montreal, April 28, 2022 – Sodexo, a world leader in providing quality of life services, is pleased to announce its new partnership with ORCA Digesters Ltd. A Canadian international player in food waste recycling technology, to minimize the production of food waste in Sodexo facilities throughout Canada and the US.

This partnership falls under Sodexo’s global commitment of reducing 34% of its carbon emissions, including a 50% reduction in food waste.

The ORCA Digesters technology uses a natural, biological process to break down food waste into its basic constituents of nutrients, protein, and water, diverting it away from traditional collection and disposal in landfills, in one single step and without chemicals or grinding.

Sodexo is excited to partner with ORCA Digesters to introduce this innovative food waste technology to our food services in Canada and our North American run locations, says Normand St-Gelais, Director of Corporate Responsibility (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Sustainability & Stop Hunger Foundation), Sodexo Canada. Sodexo works to eliminate waste and contribute to the circular economy in all aspects of our offered services. With the Orca Digester technology, we can continue to improve on our commitment to keeping waste out of landfills and emissions out of the air.

According to the United Nations, one-third of all food produced in the world is wasted which equates to 1.3 billion tons per year. With Sodexo and ORCA Digesters both having company values strongly embedded in sustainability and fighting hunger, this partnership will mitigate Sodexo’s carbon footprint of dining operations across North America.

We are thrilled to collaborate with Sodexo to deliver on our mission to drive down the environmental impact of food waste and take garbage trucks off the road.  The ORCA Digester allows Sodexo to adopt leading-edge food waste reduction technology right at their premises. Said ORCA Digesters CEO, Louis Anagnostakos.

Through this agreement, we will be able to offer our hyperlocal food waste technology to both Sodexo and Entegra customers across Canada and the US. Our ambition through this collaboration is to divert over 25,000 tons of food waste from landfills per year – saving over 4600 tons of CO2 equivalent greenhouse gases. Said ORCA Digesters Sales Director, Robert Gates.
