Championing Local and Responsible Sourcing

Sodexo supports a responsible supply chain that benefits people and the planet. By sourcing from local Canadian suppliers, we offer fresh, healthy products while strengthening communities and reducing environmental impact. Our work includes low‑carbon menus, waste reduction, and sustainable sourcing for key ingredients. In partnership with WWF, we aim to reduce carbon emissions by 34% by 2025. Through responsible sourcing and strong collaborations, we help clients meet sustainability goals and drive lasting positive change.

How We Do It

  • Improving Health, Nutrition and Well-Being

Four essential criteria determine our approach to food procurement: safety, quality, proximity, and sustainability. Our ingredients are selected according to strict nutritional requirements and are subject to a rigorous and objective testing process.
  • Fostering a Diverse and Inclusive Supply Chain

Our Supply Chain Inclusion Program was launched in North America in 2001. Its goal is to include and promote more small businesses in our ecosystem of suppliers: small/medium enterprises, women or other underrepresented groups, as well as vendors that embrace diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Creating Low Carbon Emission Supply Chains

By promoting low carbon emission products, we choose suppliers that share our commitment to reducing emissions and involve them in our efforts as much as possible. We have strict rules about monitoring where our products come from, and we regularly evaluate our suppliers’ efforts.
  • Local Sourcing Mapping Tool

This innovative tool gives our stakeholders access to live, interactive data on our supply chain footprint. It also gives our clients and customers access to traceability metrics. Our supply management and corporate responsibility teams work together to collect and review our current supply data and encourage our suppliers to provide data from their sources.

  • The Get Local Campaign

Get Local is our on-site campaign highlighting local sourcing efforts and initiatives. The goal is to engage consumers in supporting local producers, fostering community connections and promoting sustainability. This campaign emphasizes the benefits of local flavors and making a positive impact on our environment and economy.

Cage‑Free Eggs: Canada Progress and Leadership Update

Sodexo is committed to supporting improved hen welfare across our Canadian supply chain and to progressing the transition to cage‑free egg sourcing across shell, liquid, and processed egg categories. In Canada, this work builds on a strong foundation anchored in our responsible sourcing strategy and close collaboration with suppliers operating in a relatively mature market.

In 2025, Sodexo Canada sustained very high levels of cage‑free sourcing across most egg categories. At the beginning of the year, cage‑free sourcing stood at 95.61% for shell eggs, 86.70% for liquid eggs, and 66.44% for processed eggs, reflecting both completed transitions and remaining constraints in specific processing segments.

Over the course of the year, continued supplier engagement and improved availability, for processed products as example, supported further progress. By year‑end, this translated into strong results across all categories.

As of December 2025:

  • Cage‑free shell egg sourcing reached 96.04%, maintaining consistently high performance
  • Cage‑free liquid eggs increased to 93.47%, reflecting improved continuity of supply
  • Cage‑free processed eggs reached 98.04%, representing a significant improvement in a category that had previously been more constrained

On a full‑year basis, cage‑free sourcing in Canada averaged 95.82% for shell eggs, 87.43% for liquid eggs, and 97.07% for processed eggs. These results reflect both the strength of Canada’s supply base and the impact of sustained, practical efforts to address category‑specific challenges. While the broader North American avian influenza outbreak continued to create disruption across the egg sector, particularly affecting availability and restocking timelines, Canada’s supply dynamics supported strong year‑end performance across shell, liquid, and processed eggs.

Sodexo Canada continues to prioritize transparency and continuous improvement, working closely with suppliers and supporting market development to sustain high levels of cage‑free sourcing across our operations.
