Sodexo is deeply committed to reducing our carbon footprint, with a clear strategy that addresses our operations and supply chain.

We are in a strong position to tackle the global challenge of reducing carbon emissions through our core services, collaborating with clients and suppliers to achieve shared sustainability goals.

We have committed to reducing our carbon emissions by 34% by 2025 (compared to 2017). This commitment, approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in July 2019, makes us the first food services company to align its objective with limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

Recognizing that Sodexo’s direct greenhouse gas emissions are a small portion of our carbon footprint, we are focusing on reducing indirect carbon emissions from activities with our clients and suppliers.

By setting ambitious targets for carbon emission reduction, we're taking concrete steps towards a more sustainable future.

Our 2025 Carbon Emission Reduction Target

Sodexo is on a mission to drastically reduce our carbon emissions, aiming for a 34% cut by 2025 compared to our 2017 baseline. This ambitious target is part of our broader commitment to sustainability, encompassing initiatives like sustainable eating, responsible sourcing, minimizing food waste and championing sustainable packaging principles. By integrating plant-based menu options and enhancing food waste reduction efforts, we're making significant strides towards a net zero future by 2040.

    Reducing Food Waste

    Food waste poses a significant environmental challenge. Sodexo commits to eliminating food waste by half by 2025, employing strategies like WasteWatch powered by Leanpath and fostering employee engagement to minimize waste and its environmental impact, all while contributing to community well-being.

    Promoting Sustainable Diets

    Recognizing the environmental impact of food production, Sodexo champions plant-based diets. In collaboration with the Humane Society International Canada, we've introduced menus rich in plant-based recipes across various sectors, catering to consumer demand and contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

    Half of Sodexo’s carbon emissions come from our supply chain, including meat, dairy, palm oil, and paper.
