Ageing, Technology and Experiences of Home

  • As part of our partnership with the University of Ottawa's LIFE Research Institute, Sodexo is funding a research project which, although highly present in everyday reality, remains largely understudied: advances in technology designed to help older people.

The project, led by Jeffrey Jutai, Professor at the Health Science department at University of Ottawa, will use innovative, interdisciplinary research methods to address how seniors describe the meaning of ‘home’, their descriptions related to their life experiences with technology, as well as how seniors think a new approach to ‘smart home’ technology would affect their experiences of home and potentially their perception of being able to age at home.

The project will create an opportunity for attuning the design of technology innovations to the skill sets and technological literacy of older users. It will improve the understanding of how technology changes the experience of living at home with frailty and provide stronger theoretical foundations for the field.
