Healthy eating is a lifelong journey

  • FlorenceWhen Florence realized the pandemic was going to last much longer than expected, she started rethinking what makes her and her family happy and healthy. She started by reinstating Saturday night dinners with her husband and daughter. Although they normally eat at different times during the week, Saturday nights are now reserved for cooking together, and that this where they have had some of their fondest family memories of being in lockdown.

Because of her background in nutrition, Florence says she is more careful at choosing fresh and whole food to boost her immune system but that on the other hand, “I appreciate the role of having comfort food occasionally to bring joy to my daily routine.”

In terms of the biggest misconception around healthy eating, Florence says she often hears “Healthy eating is expensive, time consuming and not fun". And says that speaking with a dietitian can show you that it is quite the opposite. “Ask your dietitian to explain the role of nutrition in your life with real and feasible examples,” she says. “Healthy eating needs some skills and can be a challenge, but you should not feel you're alone in this journey. Once you learn those skills you can apply them life long and adjust it as needed.”

Florence also recommends trusting our bodies and building a good relationship with them first and foremost. “I really like exploring my body cues and listen to my internal messages,” she says. “And following professional advice and tailoring them with our own individual desire makes this advice meaningful and applicable.”
